Worldwide Lyme Protest May 10th & 11th 2013
New South Wales: Sydney - Protest, May 10th.
The Days Events & Photos
The Days Round-up: The protest event held in Sydney, Australia was the *first event in the world to kick off the Inaugural Worldwide Lyme Protest campaign.
* Whilst New Zealand is "ahead" of Australia time wise, their participation in the worldwide campaign in this, its inaugural year, consisted of online awareness and numerous media stories, rather than people attending a protest / awareness event. The event was attended by around 60-70 Lyme patients, family and friends. This number of people was lower than the first Australian protest held outside the NSW Health offices in September 2012, though it was expected due to there being four different events held in NSW on this, the worldwide campaign week-end. The protest outside NSW's Health in Sydney was the only Protest (as opposed to awareness) event in Australia on May 10th and 11th. This was due to the fact that NSW is the only State in Australia that has an official policy on Lyme disease. Due to this event being a more "formal" event than the awareness events - the speeches prepared by Sue Sherrat, Janice Foster, Karen Smith, Jodie Donnelly and Kate Wood have been uploaded. Click on the individual names for links. See Below For: Photo's of the day, You tube video of "Right These Wrongs". The Lyme Awareness song written by Emily Madden and performed by Tara Stevens and Ashe Williams-Smith. Tara Stevens also performed her own song, Beautifully Broken, which she wrote about her and her sisters Lyme journey. There is also a podcast interview and article for West Taylor. |

Shannon is 13 years old! Top Right: Mal Pace, Ryan Hollings, Janice Foster and her workmate that came along to support the protest, holding up their placards outside NSW Health. Huge Thanks to all.
"'BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN " Tara wrote this song as a reflection of her younger sister Shannon and herself get sicker and sicker with this Lyme. Its both amazing and sad and shows the strength of the broken and sick people.
Due to traffic the recording at the event was not the best, below is a pre-recording of Tara singing the song. |
