WWLAP - Australia 2014 Campaign Name Change
Taking into account the nature of all of Australia's events**, Karen Smith (Australia's International Representative) proposed that Australia changed its campaign name from Worldwide Lyme Protest - Australia, to the Worldwide Lyme Awareness Project - Australia. Members of the Worldwide Lyme Australia committee all confirmed support and voted to replace the word 'protest' with 'project' in their 2014 campaign.
The Australian committee believe the word Project better encompasses the nature of ALL of the events being held around Australia on the Worldwide Lyme Awareness week-end. Worldwide Lyme Awareness Project - Australia, was designed to still fit in with the WWLP acronym, and continues to campaign for the same aims of the mission statement as all other founding/participating countries of the WWLP.
**Australia's Events: The majority of Australia's events are centred around raising as much awareness and education in the wider community as possible. This situation regarding the events is because it was found that most event organisers were more comfortable organising awareness (rather than protest) events, where the more easy going atmosphere allows many more of the general public to be reached/educated on the dangers of Lyme. In the inaugural (2013) year, a conscious choice was made to keep Australia's 'protest' events to the state of New South Wales (NSW), as this is the only state with an 'official' government policy on the existence (or lack there-of) of Lyme in Australia.**
